Requirements
  • Qualification as a Captain on one or several of the following rivers:
    • Danube
    • Dutch and Belgian rivers
    • Rhine, Main and Moselle
    • Seine, Rhône and Saône
  • A or B river patent
  • Radar and radio certificate for the respective areas of operation
  • Ability to communicate in German for navigation purposes
  • Ability to communicate in English with guests and company personnel.
  • Leadership skills
  • Good social skills and ability to interact with guests
  • Organized and dependable personality with a strong sense of responsibility
  • Safety expert. First aid and breathing apparatus training is desirable but not a requirement

Role and Responsibilities
  • Represent the company values and visions
  • Ensure a professional and courteous service while managing the daily operations
  • Maintain company standards and operating procedures
  • Ensure the safety of the ship, staff, and passengers
  • Adhere and enforce the company “Safety Management plan”
  • Conduct quality controls and spot checks
  • Supervise all nautical-technical maintenance
  • Supervise and assist the nautical team in carrying out their deck work
  • Interact with guests courteously on a regular basis
  • Liaise professionally with local authorities during inspections and audits
  • Assist with safety equipment checks and ship maintenance following company protocols

Side Tasks
  • Assist the captain with preparations and supervision of winter repairs
  • Assist with other duties such as luggage service, loading, and garbage off-loading
  • Assist with execution of all safety drills
  • Report any accidents or incidents to the captain
  • Identify “near miss” situations accordingly and follow up with reports
  • Participate in scheduled trainings, briefings, and meetings
