Overall Purpose of Role
The Technical Superintendent – Euro Rivers Fleet is responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective technical operation of inland waterway vessels operating across European rivers. This role ensures vessels comply with all regulatory requirements, class standards, and company policies while maintaining high levels of reliability, performance, and safety. Leverages day-to-day experience of managing an existing fleet for the construction specifications, documentation approval and production of new river vessels and all other river vessel related projects.
Requirements:
Experience
- Marine Engineering degree or equivalent technical qualification.
- Previous experience as Engineer (minimum 2 years).
- Strong knowledge of European inland waterway regulations and standards.
- Experience with river vessels (e.g., tankers, cargo barges, passenger vessels) is highly desirable.

Main Area of Responsibility
- Supervise and monitor vessels cost, safety, quality and operational performance.
- Supervise and monitor all technical issues.
- Provide technical support to the vessels, carry out (with ship’s staff) all possible repairs and or maintenance in service, and during winter lay-up period.
- Implement and monitor (technical related issues) that officers and crew perform incompliance with the Company’s policies and procedures.
- Purchase of spare parts and consumables on fleet bases.
Job Description
- Monitor vessel condition through visits, inspections, supervision, and ongoing support to ensure alignment with the objectives and policies of the Euro Rivers Fleet Department.
- Tailor performance management for each vessel based on age, condition, type, and trade, with particular consideration given to the nationality and experience of chief officers and crew, in addition to the formal safety and quality management system.
- Conduct vessel inspections with particular focus on the superstructure, accommodation, safety equipment, main and auxiliary machinery, as well as navigation and communication systems. Identify and report any non-compliance with company policies, and take corrective actions to support continuous system improvement.
- Support the implementation of the Safety Management System (SMS) and environmental policies, ensuring company procedures and work practices are followed. Provide guidance and instruction to the Captain and/or officers in cases of non-compliance, and report all findings to the Technical Director.
- Evaluate the competence, conduct, and fitness for duty of officers and crew, with particular focus on the Captain and senior officers. Assist in the performance evaluation of engine room personnel.
- Contributing to recruitment efforts by supporting hiring processes and actively participating in candidate interviews.
- Review all vessel reports submitted to the Company and operators, including spare parts management and on board maintenance systems. Identify and report any non-compliance, and implement or recommend corrective actions as required.
- Conduct loss prevention, gather experience feedback, and report casualties in cooperation with Technical Director and DQS to implement preventive measures, improvements, and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with EU inland waterway regulations, as well as flag state and classification society requirements.
- Coordinate dry-dockings, repairs, and refurbishments within budget and timelines and provide assistance in Nautical/Technical matters.
